The Voice Behind Radio Melanesia 87.7 – A New Gospel Presence on the Airwaves

Published: March 16, 2026

MMUK is delighted to share news of an exciting development in the Anglican Church of Melanesia’s communications ministry: the launch of Radio Melanesia 87.7, a new Gospel FM station broadcasting across Honiara. At the heart of this initiative is the warm and encouraging voice of Mrs Lanieta (“Lanita”) Nimelea, whose broadcasts are already becoming a source of hope and inspiration for many listeners.

Lanita presents live each weekday from 7.00am to 12.00pm, offering a blend of Gospel music, Bible reflections, and uplifting messages. Her recently introduced morning programme, Morning Breakfast with Provincial Press, provides a lively start to the day and shares church news from across the Anglican provinces of Melanesia.

Although the station is new, Lanita brings considerable experience. She began her radio career in 2006 with Paoa FM and later joined the ACoM Media Team in May 2025, where she has become a central figure in developing the Church’s broadcast outreach. Her familiar voice now helps shape a station designed to strengthen Christian faith, offer companionship, and share messages of peace and encouragement with communities across the islands.

Radio Melanesia plays an important role in connecting people in a region where radio remains one of the most accessible forms of communication. It supports the Church’s mission by sharing Scripture, promoting Christian values, and reaching those who may not have regular access to worship or pastoral care.

Please Pray for This Ministry

MMUK invites supporters in the UK to pray for Radio Melanesia 87.7, for Lanita, and for the wider ACoM Media Team as they nurture this new venture.
Please hold in prayer:

  • the continued development and stability of the station,
  • the staff and volunteers involved in producing programmes,
  • the technical equipment and funding needed to sustain broadcasting,
  • and the many listeners who turn to the station for comfort, hope, and spiritual nourishment.

Radio Melanesia is a growing and lifegiving ministry, and we look forward to sharing more updates as it develops.

If you would like to learn more about ACoM’s communications work or support these efforts, MMUK would be pleased to hear from you.
