Selwyn College Installs New Generator
Selwyn College in the Solomon Islands, has a new power generator to replace the old one which was decommissioned in 2021. The purchase was made possible with funding from the ACoM, SOSA – Selwyn Old Students Association and from the College.
The generator alone cost SBD$350,000 plus SBD$140,000 for additional costs including shipping from overseas to Honiara, clearance from Solomon Islands Ports Authority, Solomon Islands Customs and Excise and transport from Honiara to the school.
The installation of the set was done by an engineer, Mr Lemuel Liolea who designed the college’s solar hybrid system. The solar hybrid system runs during daytime and the generator works at night supplying 24-hour power supply to the school.
The generator was blessed and commissioned by the school Chaplain, Rev Christom Auzare in a service held after the Eucharist service on Sunday 11 June 2023.
