Prayers Following a Ferry Disaster in Vanuatu

At least one person has died and more than 30 remain missing after a ferry sank off the coast of Vanuatu while travelling from Ambae and Santo. The Archbishop of Melanesia has posted his prayers and solidarity.

God of the sea and of every shore,
We pray for the people of Vanuatu following the tragic ferry disaster. We remember with sorrow the person who has lost their life, and we hold before you all those who remain missing. Surround them with your mercy, and strengthen the search and rescue teams as they continue their vital work.
Comfort families and friends who wait in uncertainty, fear, and grief. Grant them courage, hope, and the support of their communities in these difficult hours. Be close to all who have been rescued, those providing care, and the leaders coordinating the response.
Lord Jesus, who calmed the storm and watched over those at sea, be present among the islands of Vanuatu today. Bring safety to those still unaccounted for, peace to anxious hearts, and strength for the days ahead.
We ask this in your name.
Amen.
