On Saturday 14th March, something rather special took place across thousands of miles: the first online Bible study between the Community of the Sisters of Melanesia in Solomon Islands and the Associates to the Melanesian Sisters living in the UK.

Although the two groups have met online before for worship and for fellowship, this was the first time they gathered specifically to study Scripture together. It proved to be a deeply enriching moment of shared faith, learning, and fellowship.

The Sisters and Associates reflected on Luke 10:1–11, The Mission of the Seventy‑Two. The passage was read in both Solomon Islands Pidgin and English, allowing everyone to hear the text in a voice familiar to their own community.

Together, the Sisters and Associates explored:

  • the words or phrases that spoke most strongly to them,
  • what they personally carry with them on mission,
  • what they choose to leave behind,
  • and how “the kingdom of God comes near” in their own lives and ministries.

The conversation was heartfelt and thoughtful, with a beautiful sense of unity across cultures and time zones. The session concluded with shared prayers for Christian unity, peace around the world, and for the ongoing work and witness of the Melanesian Sisters throughout the region.

This first study has shown just how fruitful these shared moments can be, and more sessions are already being planned for the months ahead. They promise to strengthen the bonds of prayer, understanding, and mutual support within this unique international fellowship.

We warmly invite supporters to join future online studies with the Sisters.

If you feel drawn to support the Community in a deeper way, you might also consider becoming an Associate to the Melanesian Sisters — a commitment to uphold the Sisters in prayer and support, and to walk alongside them in their mission.
