Empowering Women and Communities: Mothers’ Union Training in Solomon Islands

Supporters of the Melanesian Mission will be encouraged to hear of the continued impact of the Mothers’ Union (MU) in Solomon Islands. The MU office in the Diocese of Central Solomons has recently organised a vibrant and practical training session that brought together 60 members—including some men—for a time of learning, fellowship, and empowerment.
The training covered essential topics such as leadership development, understanding MU roles, and the five core objectives of the Mothers’ Union. Participants also gained hands-on experience in practical skills including sewing Merry blouses, crafting food covers, and making food carriers—skills that not only support family life but also offer income-generating opportunities.

For those new to the work of the Mothers’ Union, it is a global Christian charity with over four million members in 84 countries. Rooted in prayer and practical action, MU is dedicated to supporting families and communities through outreach, education, and advocacy. In Melanesia, MU plays a vital role in strengthening family life, promoting gender equality, and equipping women with the tools they need to lead and serve.
This recent training is a testament to the transformative power of your support. It is through your generosity that such initiatives can flourish, bringing hope and dignity to communities across the region.
A Prayer for Mothers’ Union in Melanesia
Loving God,
We thank you for the faithful witness of the Mothers’ Union in Melanesia.
Bless all who serve through its ministries—those who teach, those who learn, and those who lead.
May their hands be strengthened for service, their hearts encouraged in fellowship,
And their communities transformed by love, wisdom, and peace.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
