Diocese of Central Solomons Holds 11th Diocesan Synod

Published: July 20, 2026

The Diocese of Central Solomons (DoCS) gathered for its 11th Diocesan Synod from 30 May to 5 June 2026, bringing together representatives from across the diocese for a week of worship, fellowship, reflection, and decision-making.

As the highest governing body of the diocese, the Synod brought together 67 clergy and lay representatives from the diocese’s 12 districts, two parishes, and three institutions. Meeting under the chairmanship of the Right Reverend Stephen Koete, Bishop of Central Solomons, delegates considered matters relating to the mission, ministry, and governance of the Church.

The Synod opened with a celebration of the Holy Eucharist, placing prayer and worship at the heart of the gathering and setting the tone for the discussions that followed throughout the week.

Delegates were warmly welcomed by the host community of Vuranimala Village in Ghaeta District. Their generous hospitality and vibrant welcome ceremony reflected the strong sense of fellowship and unity that characterises the Anglican Church of Melanesia and helped create a spirit of shared purpose for the days ahead.

Bishop Steven is welcomed to the Diocesan Synod

This year’s Synod was guided by the theme:

“Empowering Christians to Recognize themselves as Participants of God’s Mission, in order to be Resilient to the Challenges of today.”

The theme encouraged both clergy and lay members to recognise their vital role in God’s mission and reflected the Church’s desire to equip Christian communities to respond faithfully to the challenges facing society today. Discussions throughout the week focused on strengthening ministry, deepening discipleship, and ensuring that the Church continues to serve its communities with resilience, hope, and compassion.

The Synod provided an important opportunity for prayerful discernment and collective decision-making, helping to shape the future direction of the Diocese of Central Solomons as it seeks to live out its calling across the islands it serves.

MMUK gives thanks for the successful gathering of the Synod and for all those who contributed to its work. We continue to hold Bishop Steven Koete, the clergy, and people of the Diocese of Central Solomons in our prayers as they implement the outcomes of the Synod and continue participating in God’s mission in their communities.
