Selwyn College Welcomes New Staff

Published: March 16, 2026

Selwyn College, one of the Anglican Church of Melanesia’s leading secondary schools, celebrated an important moment in its community on 15th March with a special induction service for newly appointed staff members. Students and staff gathered together for worship as the Right Reverend Benedict Loe, Bishop of the Diocese of Guadalcanal, formally welcomed and commissioned the new team.

The following staff were inducted into their roles:

  • Fr Edward Ato – Assistant Chaplain and NTS Teacher
  • Mr Emmanuel Mani – Senior Secondary Teacher, Mathematics
  • Mrs Rosa Okai – Senior Secondary Teacher, English
  • Mr Norland Robert – Senior Secondary Teacher, Accounting
  • Mr Robert Waihiona – Senior Secondary Teacher, Design Technology
  • Mr Desmond Huba – Secondary Teacher, Design Technology
  • Mrs Salome Tabo – School Bursar

The service was also attended by Desmond Waita, Education Secretary for the Anglican Church of Melanesia Education Authority, along with the wider school community who gathered to witness and support this significant occasion.

In his address, Bishop Loe reminded the newly appointed staff that serving in an Anglican school is more than employment — it is a ministry and a calling. He encouraged them to teach with commitment and compassion, helping to shape young people academically, spiritually, and morally. Their role, he emphasised, contributes to the wider mission of the Church: forming young people who grow in character, wisdom, and faith.

Induction services are a valued tradition within ACoM‑run schools, marking the beginning of a new chapter for staff and affirming the Church’s dedication to education that transforms both lives and communities. These moments provide an opportunity for students and fellow staff members to pray for those taking up new responsibilities and to offer their encouragement as they begin their work.

The ceremony concluded with prayers of blessing over the newly inducted staff, entrusting their ministry to God and reaffirming the ongoing growth and vitality of Selwyn College.

MMUK gives thanks for the dedicated educators who serve within ACoM schools and invites UK supporters to hold the staff and students of Selwyn College in their prayers.
