Learning for Life – Supporting ACoM Education in Melanesia

Published: August 7, 2025

Education in Melanesia is not just a pathway to opportunity — it is a lifeline. Yet, many children, especially girls, face barriers to accessing and completing their education. Dropout rates remain troublingly high, due to financial hardship, limited facilities, and lack of basic teaching resources.

The Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACoM) has long responded to these challenges with a determined spirit, guided by a vision of True Religion, Sound Learning, and Useful Industry. Each year, ACoM nurtures students across 53 education establishments — 24 in Solomon Islands and 29 in Vanuatu — offering pre-schools, primary and secondary schools, boarding schools, and Rural Training Colleges (RTCs). ACoM is also taking a bold step forward in establishing its own university: The John Coleridge Patteson University, providing higher education rooted in faith and service.

MMUK is launching the Learning for Life campaign to raise £25,000 by Easter 2026. These funds will directly support critical educational initiatives, including:

  • £10,000 to furnish the new girls’ dormitory at Pamua Secondary School — creating a safe, welcoming home where young women can learn and thrive.
  • Provision of science equipment and phonics teaching resources in schools to strengthen early literacy and STEM education.
  • Supplying tools and training materials to Rural Training Colleges for teaching carpentry, mechanics, farming, and hospitality — empowering young people with skills for sustainable livelihoods.

Your support will unlock futures, empower girls, and uphold ACoM’s transformative mission to educate the whole person — body, mind, and spirit.

A Prayer for Education and Hope in Melanesia

Gracious God,

You are the source of all wisdom and understanding. We thank You for the Anglican Church of Melanesia and its calling to nurture hearts, minds, and spirits through education.

Bless the children and young people across Solomon Islands and Vanuatu — especially the girls at Pamua Secondary School and those learning in classrooms, training centres, and under open skies. Strengthen teachers, leaders, and families as they guide with patience, courage, and faith.

May this campaign to support learning be filled with generosity, compassion, and purpose. Turn each gift into opportunity — every book, every tool, every space of learning — a stepping stone to hope.

Inspire us all to walk alongside our Melanesian brothers and sisters, that together we may build a future rooted in true religion, sound learning, and useful industry.

Amen
