The 20th Diocesan Synod of the Diocese of Malaita (DOM) has elected the Reverend Rickson George Maomaoru as the new Assistant Bishop elect for the Diocese of Malaita. Reverend Maomaoru, 46, succeeds the Right Reverend Bishop Hou.
Reverend Maomaoru is currently the Deputy Principal Operations, at Selwyn College National Secondary School, a post he held since the beginning of this year, after returning from Pacific Theological College (PTC), Suva , Fiji. He holds a Master in Theology Degree in Pastoral Care (Church Ministry) from PTC. Revd Maomaoru Rickson comes from the mountains of Arekwa, but spent most of his early years in Manawai in the Arekwa region in the Diocese of Malaita (DOM), Malaita Province. He married to Deldin Rigania from Fiu village and has three children, one boy and two girls.
Taking into account the philosophy of Bishop George Augustus Selwyn, the founder of the Mission in Melanesia, Revd Rickson made his Vision and Mission for his Southern and Arekwa Church in the following areas: Holistic Society of God – where Christians from diverse places live together as one people of God; Holistic Community of God – where creative teachings and learning is offered to students; Holistic Household of God –where Christians find harmonious living within the community of life-domain as a household of faith and Holistic Order of God – where Christians live together as the people of God.
The Diocesan Bishop of Malaita, the Rt Revd Sam Sahu calls on all members of the Anglican Church in Malaita and the whole Church of Melanesia to uphold Revd Rickson and his family in prayer as they prepare to take on this important responsibility in the church. His consecration will in October this year at the Diocesan Cathedral at Fiu village, Keava Region
